In the historic BHP hall of the Gdańsk Shipyard was held an exhibition of Andrzej Piwarski. It is shocking, yet very painful record of moving moments of our nation. With thoughtfully watching the tragic scenes of pain, knowing that it is they open the hope of a better life. Living in another world. This exhibition, which we Poles should see. This exhibition to which Europeans should have permanent access. This exhibition, which should last. The artist known in European salons showed a fragment of his work related to the emerging Solidarity movement and the period of martial law. In the presented work strongly felt is the thread of personal commitment. You can see the artist’s emotional attitude. The compositions in most cases refer to the great tradition of painting expressionist, especially evident in the work devoted to Grzegorz Przemyk. The roots of artistic Andrzej Piwarski grow but with colourism Polish, because at the beginning of the 60s he studied at the Gdansk Academy of Fine Arts with prof. Stanislaw Teysseire then u prof. Jacek Zulawski. This exhibition powerfully shows how far Piwarski with his Europeanism is a painter of Gdansk.
